Anacortes - Reimagine Commercial Ave Downtown Streetscapes - 2026

The City and project team is inviting you to an interactive open house to review what they have heard so far to help shape emerging design directions. Attend this open house to be part of the discussion.

Here's what is happening:

Downtown Anacortes is the heart of our community—where history, local business, culture, and daily life come together.

The City of Anacortes, in partnership with First Forty Feet, is advancing the Downtown Streetscapes Plan into its next phase. This phase focuses on exploring and refining design ideas for Commercial Avenue and its connecting streets, building on what they’ve heard from the community so far.

The goal of the project is to create a downtown that is safer, more welcoming, and more vibrant—supporting everyday activity, local businesses, and community gathering while reflecting Anacortes’ unique character.

What’s Happening Now

The project team is developing early design concepts and alternatives for downtown streets and public spaces. These ideas explore potential improvements such as:

• Safer street crossings and corners

• Enhanced streetscape elements

• Better walking and biking experiences

• Comfortable places to gather and spend time downtown

• Lighting, amenities, and features that support daily life and special events

Community input at this stage will directly shape which ideas move forward and how they are refined in the next phase of the project.

At the Open House, you can:

• Explore early design ideas and possibilities

• React to draft concepts for walking, biking, and gathering

• Help prioritize improvements and amenities

• Share what feels most essential for downtown’s future character and daily life

• Connect with neighbors, City staff, and the project team

All are welcome, and no prior knowledge of the project is needed.

Why Your Input Matters

Your feedback during this phase is a critical part of the design process. What they hear from the community will influence which concepts are refined and shared in the next stage—helping ensure downtown improvements reflect local priorities, values, and everyday experiences.
